From "Lower Thames Crossing - Linford Well"

Hi everyone,

We’re pleased to share the latest progress on the Linford Well Demolition Project. This project is the first phase in preparing to supply of water to the tunnel boring machines used to construct Lower Thames Crossing, a project that will greatly improve journeys across the South East of England.

Mobilising on site has begun week commencing 2nd February. Once set up on site, preparation activities will commence inside the building. To support this, we have engaged with local residents and nearby care facilities through door‑knocking and letter drops, keeping the community informed of what to expect.

Over the coming weeks, you may notice an increase in vehicular movement into the site as we begin setting up welfare facilities, security measures and access routes. All work will take place during normal daytime hours, and there will be no impact on water supplies or local services. Most of the work over the next few weeks will be taking place inside the building.

We appreciate your patience and will continue working hard to minimise any disruption.

Was there any other plans to restore the building instead of knocking it down? I know this would be costly but with the endless money pit that is indeed the LTC then it would have been a nice gesture to restore what I deem as a great building! I am quite upset that I feel this decision was taken without consult. The first I had heard of it was when a letter came through my door and even then I assumed it was referring to a small brick building near George n Dragon pub! It was only due to a Facebook post that I have learnt the truth

@Tracy H Hi Tracy, Thank you for getting in touch. Essex and Suffolk Water went to great lengths to explore every possible option for restoring the building. Multiple assessments were undertaken, and professional advice was sought to understand the full extent of the work required. Unfortunately, the building has fallen into significant disrepair, and the cost of installing a new roof, combined with the ongoing maintenance necessary to keep the structure safe and functional proved far too high to be a sustainable option. We fully appreciate that this decision may be disappointing or upsetting to some members of the community. It was not made quickly or lightly. Every effort was made to consider alternative solutions, but in the end, dismantling the building was the most responsible and financially viable course of action. Our priority has always been to ensure safety and to make decisions that are in the best long term interests of everyone involved.

I Live on East Tilbury Road and we already suffer from heavy vehicle traffic along this road,. In addition the use of Lower Crescent , Somerset Road and Northumberland by companies to park Business trucks causes significant congestion along this road which in turn causes further congestion along these roads in addition to the congestion caused by the significant closure of the gates at East Tilbury Station. Please consider the impact of these conflicting issues. together with your truck movements, on the lives of local residents.In particular at school morning and afternoon times when young children will need to use Lower Crescent to get to their homes. I would be grateful to hear what actions you will be putting in place to put residents, particularly those with children, concerns at rest. Thanks Robert Quick 99 East Tilbury Road.

@Robert Quick I remember East Tilbury when I lived here previously albeit i admit that was 30 years ago! How it has changed. I'm surprised by even the midday traffic moving through the main East Tilbury Road during "off peak" hours and often think, ", where are they all going"?! I hear your issues vis a vis young children in relation to traffic on the children's school run. I really hope you gets answers. I'm not sure how much impact the Well in Lower Crescent will have an effect on traffic but I guess it all adds up. All that combined with the LTC and all the new houses being proposed within the next few years!

@Robert Quick Hi Robert Thank you for getting in touch. We appreciate your area already suffers from heavy vehicle traffic. Our vehicle traffic will be limited to off peak hours to avoid school run times whenever possible. We currently estimate one or two truck daily will be utilised during weekdays. We do not envisage any weekend working at this time. In the coming weeks, there will be a customer event advertised on the Community Hub for Monday 30th March. Please keep an eye out and any further questions you are welcome to visit us at the event.

I am writing in reference to the Well demolish and re-build in Lower Crescent Linford. I live next door and would like to know if, once the new well is erected, whether ESW are going to sell off the remaining land for residential or other purposes or whether the remaining areas will be landscaped.

@Suzanne Steward Hi Suzanne, thank you for making contact with us via the community hub. We do not have any plans to sell off the remaining land and we have no immediate plans for landscaping as part of the demolition project.
