Project Update 06/02/2026 - Stradbroke Road in Fressingfield

We are investing £1.4m into improving the water main along Stradbroke Road in Fressingfield. This essential work is being carried out because customers have experienced a significant number of bursts over many years, leading to frequent disruption. We understand that the current road closure is inconvenient, we appreciate the patience and understanding of everyone affected while we work to deliver long-term benefits.

Why we are doing this work

By renewing the entire stretch, rather than carrying out small repairs, we will:

  • Eliminate weak points that repeatedly cause leaks and bursts
  • Reduce disruption for local customers and road users
  • Protect network resilience, especially where bursts could affect wider areas and storage
  • Minimise the need for emergency traffic management, particularly during evenings and weekends
  • Connect with previously upgraded pipework in The Street, Weybread, and from Ebden’s Corner to Rattlerow Hill, ensuring a reliable, modernised water route

What this means for customers

Once current project is complete, customers can expect:

Fewer interruptions to water supply

  • More stable water pressure
  • A significantly reduced risk of emergency repair work
  • Less disruption to traffic and local journeys

Our team is dedicated to ensuring the best outcomes for everyone in Fressingfield. We are committed to minimising disruption wherever possible and supporting the community throughout this process. We recognise the impact that road closures and ongoing work may have on daily life and thank you for your ongoing patience and cooperation.

We will continue to keep you updated on our progress through the community hub and will provide further information as we move forward.

Thank you,

The Project Team

I am a private carer who lives in Fressingfield I have to go to Weybread and come back to Fressingfield every day and sometimes 6 times a day I have to care for my dementia diagnosed mother in Harleston during the day too. I have tried the back roads but there are too many lorries and vans the diversion route is simply too long and I haven’t the time in the day. Your workmen have been helpful to me and are getting to know my car AY67XGK White Nissan Juke Can you please see your way to getting me some sort of pass to carry out my essential work. The lady in Weybread is Ann Duff she’s 96 years old she lives at Rookery Farm

@Amanda Blake Hi Amanda, thank you for your query and for your patience in my reply. I wanted to be thorough supporting you as I understand the importance of your query. I have contacted The Project Team, and for reassurance, I can confirm that if you are within the road closure the Gatemen will let you through and you will always have access. We will always help where we can and during the night the road will be accessible. Let me know if there is anything else we can help you with.
