Project Update 13/02/2026

From "Suffolk Mains Renewal, Fressingfield"

Go to the project

Hi everyone,

Work has now begun on the open‑cut section along Harleston Hill, starting at the War Memorial and progressing towards the culvert. The team has also completed the road crossing near the gas main at the Mill Road junction.

Over the coming week, crews will continue open‑cut installation and complete the final trial holes ahead of directional drilling. Preparations for drilling beneath the culverts will also take place.

Directional drilling is planned to start on Monday 23rd February with two teams working at the same time:

  • Teams are continuing open‑cut installation along the roadside.
  • Additional teams carrying out the directional drilling beneath key crossing points.
  • The works are being delivered simultaneously to help with efficiency of delivery.

Traffic & Pedestrian Advice

Safety measures remain in place throughout the works:

  • Large sections of the road are reduced to a single lane with barriers. Please drive cautiously and follow traffic controls. This area is access only for school traffic, deliveries, residents, and emergency services. Please use hazard lights when passing through the closure.
  • Pedestrians should use designated routes and keep a safe distance from construction activity.
  • Please be aware that heavy plant and machinery will be operating in the area. Your safety remains our highest priority.

Community Event Reminder

Join us at The Fox & Goose on Monday 16th February, between 10am–2pm for our community event.

If you’re unable to attend, don't worry — we have more events planned, which will be posted on the Community Hub. Alternatively, if you'd like us to visit your property to discuss the works, please leave a comment below and our construction supervisor will arrange a visit.

We would like to thank you for your patience and cooperation during these essential works.

I experienced exactly the same scenario yesterday 😝 I also attended the Drop-In Session at the Fox & Goose and asked about driving from Weybread to the Doctors in Fressingfield (as I had an appointment there on the 19th February) and was told I would be allowed to go through the road closure for this reason. I was not allowed entry by the car parked across the entrance at the Mill Lane cross roads. On speaking to the young man in the car and explaining my circumstances he tried to phone his boss Paul but ended up having to text him as he was on the phone. The text reply came back saying NO ENTRY, so I asked to speak to Paul. He texted back that he had his instructions from Ellie at Core and to contact her. Which I have tried to find information on how to do so without success, SO I’m now posting my disappointment here in the hope that things can be clarified and an apology as I was misinformed by the young lady at the Drop-In. I also had to go down the single lane, narrow roads, circuitous route to the doctors and thankfully was not late for my appointment.

We attended the drop I session at the Fox and Goose yesterday and the staff were very helpful. We live in Weybread and our GP is in Fressingfield. We were told that access through the roadworks would be allowed for visits to the GP surgery. My wife had an appointment this afternoon and was told she could not go through and so had to use single track lanes to get there in time. Why was she not allowed through and what assurances can you give that this will not happen again?
