Main Road Water Mains Renewal

We are investing over £250,000 to replace the existing old water main between the junction from the junction with Steeple Road/Bradwell Road to St Lawrence Holiday Park. This project is essential as it will replace an aging water main that has unfortunately experienced some issues in the past, leading to interruptions in service. Our goal is to ensure a reliable and uninterrupted water supply for you and the community.

Go Vocal Moderator1 year ago We are pleased to confirm that the section of work installing the new water main along the road is now complete and the traffic lights have been removed. We are now just preparing for the final connections of the new pipe in the Jubilee Fields car park and then will need to do the same back down at the junction with Bradwell Road (there won't be any work in the road itself). We will then switch the water supply entirely over to the new pipe and the old pipe will be taken out of use.We would really like to thank the entire village community for their amazing patience, understanding and cooperation whilst we have been carrying out this work. By doing this, you have helped us effectively replace 1.2km of old poor condition water main with a new polyethylene one that will reliably supply the village of St Lawrence Bay for many years and generations to come.Our team will now move on to replace another old and in poor condition water main along St Lawrence Hill and Bradwell Road between Blackhouse Farm and St Lawrence Church

Go Vocal Moderator1 year ago As of Friday 14th March, we have installed just over 900 metres of new water main that will very soon replace the old existing pipe.We are now continuing along the road edge for and are expecting to be complete on this section over the coming 2 weeks.We would like to thank everyone again for their patience and understanding whilst we carry out this work. Only a couple of weeks remaining now and the length of old water main that regularly bursts will be replaced.

Go Vocal Moderator1 year ago As planned, work commenced on Monday 27th January. This first week has seen us marking out the working strip along the edge of the field adjacent to Main Road and delivering the plant and equipment required for the new pipe installation. Also, during this first week, we have begun installing the new water main with over 200metres of new pipe being installed along the field edge starting at the Bradwell Road end. The new water main pipe is being installed using a technique of Directional Drilling. This involves horizontally boring a hole underground and the new pipe is then pulled along into the hole. This method removes all of the need to excavate far slower and more disruptive long trenches. The plan for week no.2 (w/c 03/02/25) is to continue installing further lengths of the new pipe along the field edge.
