Newtown Great Yarmouth
Essex & Suffolk Water is working in Newtown, Great Yarmouth renewing our pipework and replacing old water supply pipes, made of lead.
We’re focusing on specific streets where homes are more likely to have older pipes, still made of lead. Using local infrastructure records and property age data, we’ve identified parts of Newtown where these older pipes are likely to still be in use, and we will be gradually working our way through these areas.
Start Date: September 2025
Estimated End Date: Ongoing
Partners: T4
We're replacing
- Our communication pipes — the section of pipe from our water main to your property boundary.
- Your supply pipe — the section of pipe that runs across your property into your home, if lead is found.
The supply pipe is usually the homeowner’s responsibility. But while we’re working in your street, we’re offering to replace it for free if it’s made of lead

Here’s how it works
If you are in an area we are currently working in, you’ll have already received a letter from us detailing how to take part in this programme.
- Book a free survey — one of our surveyors will check if your pipe is made of lead.
- If lead is found, we’ll arrange a replacement using trenchless technology — meaning no big trenches and minimal disruption.
- Most work is completed in a single day by qualified plumbers and engineers.
