Syleham Borehole Works

Project Overview

Essex & Suffolk Water, will be carrying out work to create a new groundwater borehole next to our existing Syleham Water Treatment Works. This investment will help strengthen local water supplies and improve resilience, helping us continue to provide a reliable supply of drinking water for customers across the Suffolk area.

The treatment works is supplied by water from underground sources, collected through a number of boreholes on and around the site. As some of the existing boreholes are reaching the end of their operational life, a new borehole is needed to help maintain a dependable water supply for the future. The first phase of the project will involve drilling the new borehole.

This work is currently planned to begin in June 2026 and is expected to be completed by September 2026. During this time, a temporary construction area will be set up on land next to the treatment works.

We will work to minimise disruption wherever possible and keep the local community updated throughout the project.
