Essex & Suffolk Water are carrying out some Groundwater source investigation works near to Holton Village. These investigation works, involving drilling and testing of a new Groundwater Borehole, are within the field we already own off of Bungay Road. This essential investigatory works will help to inform our future investment and any further work we may carry out on the water supply network. This will help ensure that our existing water supply network remains resilient in the future and that we continue to supply our existing customers in the area with great tasting tap water.

These steps are essential to make sure the final solution meets the high standards we expect before the borehole is brought into supply.While this has extended the overall timeline, our priority is to get this right first time. Go Vocal Moderator1 year ago Hi everyone,We just wanted to keep you updated regarding the silt matting in the ditch.Following a review with the Environment Agency, we will be retaining some silt matting within the ditch systems to help capture any remaining iron deposits.On Wednesday 30 July, the majority of the existing matting will be removed. We will then install new matting at two final locations, which will remain in place until Autumn. These final positions have been carefully selected to ensure there is no increased flood risk through the village.We will continue to regularly monitor the condition of the matting until its final removal later in the year.We thank you for your continued understanding.

Go Vocal Moderator1 year ago Hi everyone,We wanted to share a quick update on the borehole work taking place in your area.The test pumping is now complete, and we’ve stopped putting water into the ditch system. Throughout this work, we’ve been mindful of the area’s history with flooding, and our installation of the coconut matting was carefully planned to help manage and reduce any potential risk.We completely understand there may be some concerns about the matting still being in place. Before we can remove it, we need to work closely with the Environment Agency to agree the best way to carry out the clean-up, making sure that any iron staining or silt doesn’t flow further downstream into the river.Here’s what’s coming up: Tuesday 15 July – We’ll be carrying out a full environmental assessment of the ditch. Thursday 17 July – We’ll meet with the Environment Agency to agree the next steps. Week beginning 21 July – Once we’ve agreed a plan, we’ll start removing the matting and begin any necessary remediation work. In the meantime, we’re continuing to regularly check the ditch and the matting to make sure everything remains safe and is not increasing the flood risk. We’re also keeping a close eye on the weather and will make any adjustments needed if heavy rain is forecast.All the actions we’re taking are focused on protecting both the community and the environment, and we truly appreciate your continued understanding as this work progresses.Thank you,Project Team

Go Vocal Moderator1 year ago We have recently completed the drilling of a new groundwater production borehole off Bungay Road in Holton. We are now entering the next vital phase—testing the flow, volume, and quality of the water.As part of this process, we are carefully discharging groundwater into the local ditch system along Bungay Road and Lodge Road. This discharge is fully permitted by the Environment Agency and meets strict environmental standards to ensure no harm to the local environment.What to Expect: Testing period: 24/7 continuous discharge from 9 June to 14 July 2025. Visual changes: You may notice increased water flow in the ditches and some white or orange discoloration, caused by naturally occurring chalk and iron minerals in the groundwater. Environmental precaution measures: We’ve observed some orange discolouration due to naturally occurring iron oxidation and, as a precaution, are installing additional silt matting in the ditches. Our contractors will be active in the area during this installation. Monitoring: We will continue with regular water quality testing and visual inspections to ensure conditions remain within safe and approved limits. We will also ensure that the discharge does not result in water backing up in the ditches. Regulatory engagement: We are in consultation with the Environment Agency regarding these additional protective measures. Please be assured—your water and sewerage services will not be affected by this work.Thank you for your understanding as we carry out this essential testing

To facilitate removal of plant and equipment from the site and to continue to keep our customers and site team safe a road closure along Bungay Road will be in place from Monday 21st July to Friday 25th July. Based on resident experiences during the previous road closure, the road closure barrier locations will be amended to ensure unrestricted access to your property.Please use the plan overleaf as a guide to where the road closure will be in place to allow you to plan your access and exit along Bungay Road.Essex and Suffolk Water would like to thank you for your understanding, and for any inconvenience caused, while we completed these essential works. As we move into the next phase of the project, we shall continue to keep you updated but we don't anticipate any further on site construction works until 2026.

Go Vocal Moderator1 year ago To mitigate for some unexpected delays on the drilling works and make use of the good weather, we have decided to extend our working hours on the site. We shall now be working up to 8pm in the evenings and will also be working Saturday and Sundays. The drilling works has now entered a new phase involving a different drilling technique. Although, I’m hopeful that the noise and traffic movements haven’t impacted our neighbours, the new drilling technique is generally quieter so should be less noticeable than before. I appreciate your ongoing understanding of the need for the works and apologise in advance for any inconvenience caused. Go Vocal Moderator1 year ago Project Update – Bungay Road, HoltonOur drilling works are progressing well at our site on Bungay Road, Holton. I’d like to update you on some upcoming road closures.Monday 7th to Friday 11th April 2025To enable the installation of pipework beneath Bungay Road and to ensure the safety of both our site team and road users, a road closure will be in place from Monday 7th April to Friday 11th April 2025. Advance warning signs will be installed over the weekend of 22nd/23rd March. Access to all properties will be maintained; however, residents will only be able to access their properties from one direction as the road will be blocked at our site entrance. Pedestrian and cycle access will remain open. We apologise in advance for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your understanding.Planned Further Road Closure – 27th to 30th May 2025A further road closure is planned from 27th to 30th May 2025 to allow us to demobilise our plant and equipment on completion of this phase of works. These dates may be subject to change, as the completion date depends on the progress of borehole drilling and testing, which can vary. I will provide an update closer to the time.

Go Vocal Moderator1 year ago I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself. My name is Daniel Osborne, and I am the Project Manager for Essex and Suffolk Water. I will be overseeing this project until its completion.From 17 February 2025 to 30 May 2025, we will be conducting borehole drilling near our existing borehole, located on land we own off Bungay Road, as shown on the overview page map. This work includes the installation of new casing to facilitate testing for potential future groundwater extraction.These investigative activities will be carried out by our delivery partner, G Stow PLC.Given the location of the work, we do not anticipate major disruption. However, you may notice an increase in traffic entering and exiting the site, along with some construction noise. Additionally, you may see higher water levels in the ditches around the site, as we discharge clean water during testing. We will make every effort to minimize any inconvenience.As the project progresses, I will keep you updated on our plans and any developments through this community hub. I welcome your feedback and am eager to hear your thoughts.
